Miniachairs

These are napkin holders if I remember correctly. I just thought they were cute. Back in my cute phase. I had them displayed on a shelf when I lived in a Vancouver apartment, so that would be ’round about 1994 and 1995. They have been packed away ever since. Now that I know a couple of little girls old enough for tea parties with their dolls, perhaps this pint-sized furniture will be played with.

Shoo shoe

I just got the little drawer unit at the Cat Rescue Christmas sale a couple of weeks ago. I know, I know, but it was for a good cause — and I collect miniature chests of drawers. However, my husband really loathes it, even though I planned on putting a coat of paint on it. I'll put it in the Sally Ann box. The metal shoe is quite heavy, about 4 inches long. Something I've looked at many times, going back and forth on whether or not I wanted to keep it. I thought about putting a trailing succulent in it, using it as a mini-planter. Even checked out all the babies growing on my succulents today, but didn't find anything suitable. Decided not to keep it. Now that it's colder, the cats are loving their cuddlers. Something about that weird synthetic fabric attracts them — it must insulate very well. We've got four cuddlers around the house, and there's usually a cat in at least one of them. I'll snap a photo of when Bear and Mika decide to share. Pretty squishy in there.

Skipper in a sailor suit was my fave

I've added a new tag. Sentimental. I loved playing with Barbies when I was a girl. I think my first Barbie was a talking one — “Stacy and I are having a tea.” My brother pulled too hard and snapped her neck string on the first day, but my parents either bought me a new one right away or must have been able to exchange her, because I ended up with a talking doll that worked for years. We were on a family trip to California at the time; I remember watching the moon landing in the living room at my aunt and uncle's place. l still have a couple of dolls and a Skipper case somewhere, but this Barbie and Midge case came to me about 11 years ago from a friend who was moving and divesting herself of some things. I recently managed to sell it for $15 (the plastic lining on the inside was a bit ripped up and other plastic was cracked) and that money is going towards my SPCA donation fund for this year. My mom used to hand sew beautful clothes for my Barbie dolls. Those I still have. So much work for such teeny dresses. Thanks Mom!

Seeing the light

Something big today. It’s an interactive light disc almost 2 feet across that creates patterns of light in response to touch, voice and music. A cool science toy that my husband bought and played with a few times. We are going to pass it along to a young boy we know. I hope he will enjoy the neat effects. It looks great in a dark room.

On your mark, get teddy, go!

Somehow I missed the stuffed animal craze. I have one teddy bear my mother gave me, made by the Ganz toy company back when it was still Ganz Brothers and before Ganz started making kitsch of all kinds. I will probably never give that bear away, but it is certainly not being kept company by a menagerie of animal siblings. I’m not sure where this little guy came from — I might have had it around in case a stray child showed up. At any rate, I see no point in keeping it.

What goes around comes around

Some days I wander around the house wondering what I can possibly get rid of today. This is totally random. I came across it in one of my junk baskets. I should give this yo-yo to one of my nephews. It will go in the giveaway box for now and I’ll decide by the weekend where it’s going.
